"Our Kids are connected.... Yet we try to cut them off"

I believe that the author of the quote who was referring to technology as being the appendages for which students who to learn was spot on. I believe that the best example of this was given in class when Lou explained that in the South Bend schools Google has been banned from the classrooms because of what the students might do. This quote sums up what most public schools do to students. We have banned technology out of fear and not allowed students to sin how us (teachers) what they know with it. Just like in the business world perspective clients would expect to see some kind of  a presentation as to whether or not they should buy something. Schools should expect students to use to technology to show us what they know. Instead we cut them off from the resources they could be using to show us what they know that would be a lot more useful than a paper and pencil test.

  1. Good comment. The stakes are high, and mistakes are costly (i.e. technology can be dangerous when misused), but we have to proceed--with caution. Won't be long before our current students are leading the way...

You are right, we cannot cut them off.

  2. It frustrates me that some school districts deny students access to such awesome technology- I think policies must be in place to deal with inappropriate behavior, and yes, we must proceed with caution, but to me access to these tools and the opportunity to learn how to use them appropriately, responsibly, and efficiently will provide students with invaluable resources and skills for their future.
