Textbooks
This article made it very clear that we still have a long way to go to make textbooks more accessible to students with disabilities. There still seems to be a wide chasm that needs to be fixed. For example the Chaffee amendment does not cover those students who are Autistic or those who have a acquired a TBI (Traumatic Brain injury). This population seems to be under served with regards to access to textbooks in different forms. It does seem as tough the blind and those that have Natural learning disabilities seem to be getting the support that they need.

I agree- accessible texts seem like they offer many features that would be so beneficial for such a wide variety of students, yet are only available for certain disability categories. Wouldn't it be awesome if textbook manufacturers would move to an era of creating these texts in more accessible formats to meet the learning needs and enhance learning for ALL students?
ReplyDeleteTrey, I have thought of those students that are not covered under Chafee often. I will be interesting to see if the laws are amended with the push for "No Child to be left Behind." It seems that as flexible technology becomes more common and easy to obtain, the under served population will have access to these beneficial resources.
